Friends for Greener Vernon
Started after the Ice storm in February 1998. Members where Elaine Newton, Wendy McDonald, Kay Porteous, Linda Clark, Helen Ferguson, Bradley Miller and spouses. Throughout the years many people helped with the many projects to date. The group planted flowers at the two entrance signs on Bank St. and installed benches and flower boxes at the library and near the Variety store, which later had to be moved to the museum. There were also flower beds at the museum, play ground and the Vernon Hall. There were three blue spruce trees planted at the museum along with trees planted at the library, etc. During the last few years, Helen Porteous and Jose Poole have maintained the entrance flower beds and the flower box at the Vernon Hall. Helen also has put up wreaths at various locations on Bank St. at Christmas. Until this year, the three blue spruce at the museum were also lit up . If you are interested in helping or have any ideas, please contact Helen.
